Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but with minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.

We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear for a somewhat snug to the body fit. If you want a looser American fit, choose one size larger.

Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is a sport/street style so there is only a moderate taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Note: Add about 1” to your chest and belly measurements if you plan to add a back protector. Add an additional 1” inch to your chest if you will add the chest protectors.

Our Two Cents

The REV’IT! Eclipse 2 Jacket is an evolution of their most popular jacket style with some notable upgrades over the original version. The jacket is still ideal for commuting and touring riders that are looking for a lightweight summer mesh jacket with no liners that brings quality and style to the table at a reasonable price.

The most notable difference in the Eclipse 2 is the use of REV’IT!’s proprietary SeeSmart CE level 1 armor in the elbows and shoulders. This flexible armor is much thinner and more comfortable than the original style’s Knox armor. The other big difference is the styling at the back of the jacket. Where the original had a solid textile strip down the center, the Eclipse 2 has a full mesh back panel. REV’IT! was able to improve the breathability of the jacket while still offering the same abrasion resistance as the old version by using a new polyester mesh that holds up better in a slide.

The new polyester mesh material has a slightly wider weave than the mesh used on the original Eclipse jacket. The difference is minor so overall airflow should be roughly the same though slightly improved thanks to panel changes through the body of the jacket. Two zippered hand pockets at the belly are easier to access than the earlier version thanks to a larger opening and a slight angle that is more natural to the body line. The Eclipse 2 jacket has snap bicep adjuster, hook and loop adjusters at the cuff and waist, and a snap collar closure. There is an additional pocket inside the jacket in the mesh lining. There are also two snap loops at the waist for easy connection to a pair of jeans or riding pants.

REV’IT! has updated the Eclipse 2 with new colors of Black Olive and Grey while bringing back the Silver, Dark Blue, and Black. The women’s version has a new Aubergine color replacing the Burgundy Red. All the colors look great in person and none are overly flashy, the perfect combination for commuter riders. Likewise, subdued reflective at the chest and back help maintain a low profile until they are needed in a low light situation and then they really shine.

The REV’IT! Eclipse 2 jacket is a great update to their most popular jacket style. Additional mesh and better armor help bring this style up to date. A great summer jacket for commuters and touring riders alike. :: Mike, 07/11/2023
